Born in Czechoslovakia. Immigrated to the US with his parents circa 1883 and the family settled near Brainard, NE. In 1885 his parents, includeing four children decided to moved to western NE. His mother and 2 siblings, Joseph and Christina, were drowned in a flash flood in Hayes County. He returned to Brainard with his father and his sister, Mary. His father remarried and moved back out west for a few years before coming back to the Brainard area.
