Harper, J. S. Home

1904 tax records list the owner as Jonathan S. Harper, Blk. 4, Lot 1, Orig DC, value $260. The home, located on the corner of 4th & H Streets was the home of Mary Jane Harper Oltmans and was removed in the 1980s to provide space for the Anton Samek home. Jonathan Harper (son of Philip Harper) worked with his father and Uncle (John Harper) in the livery & blacksmith shop that was located on the southeast corner, across the street from the courthouse square (now Union Bank location). The Harper's later started a grocery store on the north side of the downtown square.
