    1904 tax roll lists the owner as Phillip Harper, Blk. 5, Lots 7 & 10, value $380. The home was demolished in the 1980s after standing empty for several years. It is now a vacant lot. Bob Litjen recalls helping his Great Uncle, Frank Eiting, install 2" hardwood birch floors in the home. Philip Harper History: Philip Harper resided in David City for 57 years until his death at age 92. He was first a blacksmith, then a county official, then a member of the merchandising firm of Harper Brothers for more than 40 years. At age 20 he enlisted in the Union Army of the Civil War, 42nd Ohio Volunteers and was assigned to the regimental band. He later served in the 94th Ohio Infantry. When the war was near its close, his company was captured in a surprise attack and taken on a forced march to Richmond where Philip lost 30 lbs. in 30 days.
