1904 tax roll lists the owner as Frank J. Vanek, Blk. 9, Lot 12, Orig. DC, value $135. Mr. & Mrs. Frank Vanek listed there with their son, Frank Jr., who worked on the Union Pacific Railroad until circa 1960. The home stood empty for many years and was demolished in 1999. Frank Vanek Family History: At 25 years of age, Frank J. Vanek left his home and family in Czechoslovakia and immigrated to the U.S. in 1888. His brother Martin came to the US in 1893. Frank lived in St. Paul, NE, working as a tailor. About 1891, he wrote to Joseph Cerny in David City to see if he could find work for him as a tailor for M.J. Bouse. An agreement was made and Frank worked for Mr. Bouse for 20 years. In 1895 Frank J. married Mary Brabec, who was working as second cook at the hotel.
