    Edwin W. Hale came to David City in 1891 as a law partner of A. J. Evans. He practiced law for three years before being appointed a Butler County Judge 1894-1900. When his term as Judge expired, he returned to private practice. He married Bretha Williams of Wisconsin and they had three children: Edwin Jr., John and Beatrice (who married Edward H. McIntosh). Edwin died circa 1903.
