William Ball, born 1874, loved music and baseball. On Sept. 17, 1900, he married Jenny Wilgus, daughter of James and Adeline Wilgus. William was leading the David City Concert Band at the time of his marriage. The band played at the wedding, held at the bride's farm home near Rising City. Their gift was a silver service engraved with the monogram "B" and the words "D.C. Concert Band". William and Jenny lived on the family farm west of David City. Over the years, William shipped much livestock to Omaha and was one of the first to be honored when the Omaha livestock industry began honoring pioneer shippers.
