Murphy, Mike Home

1904 tax roll lists the owner as M. D. Murphy, Block 7, Lot 12, Litty's 1st Addition, value $200. The home, located on the northwest corner of 6th & G Streets, was removed and replaced with a 2-story home. Michael Murphy was born in Montreal, Canada, July 18, 1871, the son of Michael and Ellen Flynn Murphy. He ran a plumbing business in Canada for one year before moving to Nebraska in 1893. He married Margaret Fox, August 8, 1893 in Ulysses, NE. He ran a plumbing business in Columbus, NE, for 4 years before opening a plumbing business in downtown David City. His shop was located at Lot 9, Block 17, downtown, on the east side of 5th Street, just south of Thomas' Tavern. Michael & Margaret had two sons, Marvin and Raymond.
