Klosterman, John Home

John Klosterman was born in Dangast, in the Duchy of Oldenburg, Germany, December 27, 1846. He immigrated to the US and settled in Butler County, NE in 1879, where he purchased land. He raised cattle at the southwest corner of David City, where he owned all of section 25. He later sold that property and it became known as the Hogg & Snowden Ranch, then later became the Meysenburg place. He married Helene Springer of Varel, Germany, in 1881. They lived in a house where Aquinas High School now stands. Later, they moved to a house located two blocks northeast of the downtown square. John and Thomas Wolfe were stockholders in the First National Bank. John later sold all his shares to Mr. Wolfe. Soon after his arrival in Butler Co., John also went into the grain business with Louis Spelts. Aroudn 1904, John sold most of his holdings in Butler Co., and returned to Germany. He later returned to the U.S. and lived in CA until his death in 1932.
