Buchta, W. C. Home

1904 tax roll lists the owner as W. C. Buchta, Block 2, Lot 2, Orig. DC, value $300. This home, located on the southwest corner of 7th & H Streets, was removed and replaced with another home. William Buchta was born in Edwardsville, Ill., Jan. 13, 1866, the son of John and Johanna Buchta. He came to David City in 1893 to join his two brothers who had already located here. He married Elsie Armagost Oct. 9, 1895. They had one daughter, Elsie, and around 1920, they adopted Mrs. Buchta's grand-nephew, Marion Arthur, after his parents were killed. He was a graduate of the College of Horology & Optics in Chicago. He ran a jewelry and optical business in downtown David City from 1893-1925. He also served as Mayor of David City. Elsie Buchta was born in Butler County, October 19, 1873, the daughter of David and Sarah Bobb Armagost.
