Edward Kasparek loved music as a boy. Although Edward was too young to serve in the military, Colonel Colton asked Ed to be a trumpeter for the local group of military volunteers (Company E). When Company E left for the Spanish American War, Edward, who was still too young to be inducted, went with Company E as their volunteer bugler. After the war he spent time with the Campbell Bros. Circus, playing in the band. When the Hewitt's gave land to David City for the golf and ball park, Ed returned to David City and drew the plans for the grandstand and playing field. Edward ran a service station on the corner of 5th & C Streets in David City for many years.
