Burdick, H. E. Dr. Home

There is no legal description of this home in the 1904 tax record, however it was probably originally located at 440 9th St. It appears that the home, which was built in the 1920s by Dr. H.E. and Bertha Burdick on the Hughes property on the Southeast corner of 4th & B Streets was moved to Block 10, Lots 6 & 7, in the East DC addition - 270 N. 11th St. The Burdick's lived in the home with their children: Elizabeth, Donald & Howard, Harry Edwin Burdick was born in Iowa in 1878. He moved to David City in 1900 to join the medical practice of Dr. Simon Beede. In 1901 they started the David City Hospital at 895 C Street. After the death of Dr. Beede, Dr. Burdick formed a partnership with Dr. C. E. Palmer. Dr. Burdick married Bertha Agnes Hill in 1901. Their first home in David City was in the living quarters of the hospital. Mrs. Burdick was superintendent of the hospital.
