Married 7/14/1878 to Emma Brown in Butler Co. His parents' names were taken from his marriage certificate. He bought parts of Section 17-14-4 from the Omaha Rep. Valley RR, with the deeds being recorded on 9/27/1882, 2 months after he died.
The village of Brainard, NE. was founded in this section of land. Thomas was considered the founder of Brainard, he was also the first Postmaster there, establishing the Post Office in Dec. 1877. He was a dealer in general merchandise, lumber and grain. He built a home and established a dry goods store on the corner of Lincoln and Hamilton Street.
According to Andreas' History of Butler County published in 1882: Thomas Logan was born in Lancaster County PA, came to NE in 1875. He is a Civil War Veteran, enlisted at Jacksonville, IL in Co. G, First Illinois Volunteer Cavalry.
His brother James B., was mentioned in the Abstract of Title papers of Leonard and Carolyn Dvorak (Block 3, Lots 16,17 & 18 original town Brainard). After Thomas Logan died, intestate, it took 12 years to settle his estate. Initially Emma Logan and James B. Logan (his brother and also a Civil War Veteran) appointed John T. Myers as administrator; Myers died 4/5/1889. So then Thomas's sister, Isabella (Logan) Stoops, of Allegheny Co. Pa. petitioned for James B. Logan to be appointed administrator, but he died without settling the estate. He died between 5/16/1890 and June 1893. He isn't buried in Butler County. So in June 1893, other Stoops family members petitioned the court to have A. K. Smith named administrator. Finally, Smith sold what was left of the Thomas Logan estate in 1894.
Noted: On 6/4/1886, James B. Logan was a witness to the sale of 1 acre of land by J. D. and Phoebe (Crowley) Brown, Emma's parents, for $10 to the Urban Cemetery Assoc. James B. Logan served on the first Village Board after Brainard was incorporated in 1885.
Thomas Logan married Emma Brown on 7/14/1878; he was age 45 and she was age 21. Thomas died 4 years after this marriage.
Emma (Brown) Logan was born in 8/15/1857 in Carroll, MO and died on 6/6/1938 in Elk City OK. She is buried in Fairlawn Cem. in Elk City, OK. She had moved there in 1903. She married Thomas J. Baldwin in Sept. 1885 in Brainard. She had three children with her second husband, Thomas J. Baldwin. Their children were: Paul, Grace (Nellie Grace) and Melvin, all born in Brainard.
