Born in Greene County, Indiana. Married Mary Beasley 2-5-1857 in Green County, Indiana. She died 11-18-1902. Married Aldora Brewer 3-31-1906 in Lincoln, Lancaster, Nebraska. Civil War Veteran, 97th Indiana Regiment. Served with General Sherman in the March to the Sea campaign. According to local stories, Bryant was the second tallest man in his unit. It was his duty to take up and carry the flag in battle in the event that the tallest man, who carried the flag, was struck down.
