He was born in Ireland, emigrated to America in 1920 with his parents, who settled in Canada. He was married in Canada on 8/26/1841. He was a soldier in the Canadian War in 1837-1838. He came to Nebraska in May, 1859, first settling at Plattsmouth, then two years later he ranched at a place known as the Pawnee Village and was driven out by the Indians in 1865. Then he located near Ashland where he worked as a mason and built the first brick house in that town. He then moved to Butler Co. in 1874 and began to farm.
